Imogen Clawson, a 13-year-old Harrogate Grammar School student, said she was “over the moon” to be cast as Jenny Alderson in the new Channel 5 drama, which also stars Rachel Shenton, Samuel West, and Callum Woodhouse.
On Tuesday night, the first episode of Ben Vanstone’s new adaptation of best-selling novelist James Herriot’s beloved collection of stories, directed by Brian Percival, premiered on television.
The show was also shot against the gorgeous backdrop of Nidderdale, which added to the district’s tourism appeal.
After traveling to Manchester for the audition and being invited for a call-back, Imogen was offered the part.
She started filming in September and stayed on set until January, but she says the school was very supportive of her circumstances and provided her with a lot of assistance in keeping up with her academics.
I had never encountered anything like it, it was absolutely weird, she remarked.
“Some days I’d be out filming all morning, surrounded by all these incredible performers and feeling like I was in a dream, only to return to school in the afternoon for a maths lesson.”
“The teachers were all supportive, and they got into a nice habit of assigning my work that I could complete from home, so I never missed anything.”
“Watching the opening moments and seeing how it was all put together was extremely emotional,” Jenny continued. The Dales were breathtaking, and they showcased Yorkshire in all of its grandeur. Imogen is looking forward to seeing more of Jenny Alderson and the other cast members…”
Since it was revealed last year, the veterinarian drama’s return has been eagerly anticipated.
