Evan Rachel Wood has alleged years of abuse against her ex-fiancée Marilyn Manson. On Monday, the 33-year-old actress accused the 52-year-old musician of caring for her as a teenager and of abusing her “terribly” for years.
“I’m done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail.”
“My perpetrator’s name is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” she wrote on Instagram. “He cared for me as a teenager and abused me terribly for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I’m done living in fear of retribution, slander, or blackmail.”
Explaining her decision to speak up, Evan added that she wants to “expose this dangerous man” and “bring out the many industries that have empowered him” in hopes of preventing him from ruining more lives. She ended her note with: “I stand by the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Along with her Instagram post, Evan posted multiple accounts of others detailing her own abuse by Marilyn, including photographer Ashley Walters and model Sarah McNeilly. She also shared previous tweets from Marilyn’s former personal assistant Dan Cleary, who stated that the singer “broke” and “transformed” Evan into another person during their time together.
Evan and Marilyn first met in January 2007 and got engaged in January 2010, before finally separating seven months later. In February 2018, Evan appeared before the House Judiciary Committee to support the Sexual Assault Survivor Rights Act. Although she did not name her perpetrator at the time, she described her own experience of abuse. “It started slowly but escalated over time, including threats to my life, high gas lights, and brainwashing. [and] When I woke up with the man who said he loved me he was raping my unconscious body, “she said.” And the worst: sick rituals of handcuffing my feet and hands in order to be mentally and physically tortured to the point of my perpetrator. I felt that I had shown my love for them. “
The following year, Evan testified again before the California Senate Public Safety Committee, recalling an abusive relationship she was in during her teenage years. In November 2020, Marilyn’s team released a statement referring to Evans testimony after the singer finished an interview with Metal hammer when the subject was raised.
“Unfortunately, we live in a time when people believe what they read on the internet and feel free to say what they want with no actual evidence,” the statement said. “The impact can be catastrophic and promoting non-factual information is completely irresponsible. All we as the media and as individuals can try and do is use facts and truths, and not hide behind gossip and guesswork for ours.” to advance their own agendas. ”
Marilyn has since been dropped from his music label Loma Vista Recordings and the CAA talent agency. “Given today’s troubling allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease promoting its current album with immediate effect,” the statement said diversity. “Because of these developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on future projects.”
Marilyn also posted her own statement on Instagram, denying the harrowing allegations. “Of course, my art and my life have long been magnets of controversy, but these recent claims about me are terrible distortions of reality,” Marilyn wrote. “My intimate relationships have always been completely consensual.”
