Greater than 136,000 eggs fall off tractor-trailer in Pennsylvania, driver would not discover

According to police, more than 136,000 eggs fell from a tractor-trailer truck in Schuylkill County on Wednesday without the man driving the truck knowing it.

Hegins Township Police told the Associated Press that the truck driver drove to Elizabethtown, Lancaster County with more than 11,000 dozen egg cartons and more than 2,000 gallons of “egg product”.

As the truck approached an intersection, police said the 66-year-old driver lost control of the rig and the load shifted, sending the eggs and egg products down an adjacent hill. According to the police, the load of eggs and egg products was unsecured.

The driver continued on his route, said the police, without realizing what had happened. (The question, of course, is how many eggs would have to have fallen off before the driver noticed.)

According to the AP, part of Route 125 was closed for several hours because of the incident.

Incredibly, police said an investigation is currently underway into why the cargo was unsecured.
