Welcome to the Space Jam, Zendaya! On the 3rd of April Weekly entertainment announced that euphoria The actress will be the icon Lola Bunny in Space Jam: A New Legacy with LeBron James. Zendaya will be part of an effort to develop Lola beyond her 1993 image as director Malcolm D. Lee “seeks to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters.”

Lots of fans of the first Space Jam were surprised to see Lola’s subtle transformation when the character images first fell. It turns out that this change is entirely by design for Lee. He hopes to make Lola a “fully realized” member of the Tune Squad. “Lola wasn’t politically correct,” Lee said, reflecting on the original Michael Jordan film. “This is a kids’ movie, why is she in a crop top? It just felt unnecessary, but at the same time there is a long story of it in cartoons.”

Lee explained that Lola’s appearance wasn’t the only thing that had changed. He made sure that she had a “real voice” and “could be feminine without being objectified”. He continued: “For us it was, let’s justify her athletic skills, her leadership qualities and make her as full a character as the others.” Keep an eye out for Lola and the entire Tune Squad on July 16, when the film is available in theaters and streamed on HBO Max.
