Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance at the 2021 BRIT Awards on Tuesday to honor the one and only The Weeknd. While the former first lady presented him with the award for an international male solo artist, she praised the singer for establishing himself as one of the “greatest names in music” and for all of his philanthropic endeavors.

“Not only has it made its impact on stage and in our earbuds, but has donated millions to causes like COVID relief and Black Lives Matter,” began Michelle. “He helped feed those displaced by violence in Ethiopia. He funded aid to survivors of the explosion in Lebanon. Let’s just say that in a difficult year he shed a light that is pretty dazzling and gives us all a reason gave to dance. ” In addition to taking home an award, The Weeknd also delivered a rainy performance of its hit “Save Your Tears”. Congratulations to The Weeknd!
