“I am very worried”
Look in J Blakeson’s “I Care a Lot,” a black and comic neo noir film in which two strangely charismatic horrors try to outsmart each other, not for likeable characters. Rosamund Pike plays a top notch grifter who exploits the systemic flaws in the elderly care industry to make money from the helpless. Peter Dinklage plays a drug king who lives under a suspected name and runs the risk of being revealed if his mother (Dianne Wiest) is involved in the fraud. Like Blakeson’s entertainingly nasty debut film “The Disappearance of Alice Creed” from 2009, this is a well-presented and curvy film made for viewers who enjoy seeing smart people who are shamelessly awful.
This documentary about the legendary Brazilian soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known as Pelé, mainly focuses on his four World Cup appearances from 1958 to 1970. Between those years, he became universally recognized by an unknown teenager from a poor neighborhood in São Paulo as one of the best ever. Pelé directors Ben Nicholas and David Tryhorn have plenty of exciting shots of the man in action, but their film is as much about how Brazil and the world changed in the 1960s.
“Ginny & Georgia”
Gilmore Girls fans should find a lot to like Ginny & Georgia, a drama about a precocious young girl (Antonia Gentry) and her more free spirited and revealing mother (Brianne Howey), both of whom are adapting to a new life in one quaint town in New England. In a reversal of the “Gilmore Girls” premise – where the mother was born of privilege and then fled to a more bourgeois existence – the family in “Ginny & Georgia” has had hard times and is now striving for something better. The core of the show remains the often shaky relationship between a strong-willed parent and their equally headstrong child.
